REBECCA LEE PORTFOLIO
AP STUDIO ART - EXPLORATION OF ART
INSPIRATION
I used my photos for reference for an architectural-themed pattern project. I particularly focused on the shapes of the stoplights and signs.
STOP LIGHTS
Adobe Illustrator, acrylic
8.5x11
I utilized geometric shapes of everyday objects (stop lights/signs, street lights) to create art. We see these objects every day, but we often overlook them instead of appreciating them.
8.5x11
I created a more complex composition than my first project. Here, I utilized acrylic and glue to create a deconstructed image of streetlights and stoplights.
4.75x11
In my previous two projects, glue was visible on the white backboards, so I tried to create a project that does not require any adhesive to hold the acrylic pieces together. I also tried to create a project without a backboard, but wire would easily bend when help up without one, so I applied a backboard in the end of this project.
5.75x15.625
I utilized stronger wire to create a rectangle to hold the acrylic pieces together without a backboard, but the wire would still bend with the pressure from the acrylic pieces, so I utilized a clear backboard this time, experimenting with how the colors appeared overlapped. The glue was very visible on the backboard once again, so I embraced the messiness, wiping more glue onto the backboard to create a rainy day effect, inspired by my photography.
4.5x4.25
I wanted to create a project without a backboard, so I created a shape that reflected my sustained investigation with wire and glued red, yellow, white, and green acrylic pieces onto the wire, creating a balance between danger and peace.
5.75x13.875
I created a project that required no adhesive. These pieces are held together with tape for this picture. This project is interactive, with puzzle-like pieces of acrylic that can fit into the cutouts.
5.5x27
My sense of style was lost trying to create my projects without backboards and adhesives, so I embraced the use of both. This project reflects the stages of life; in some moments you feel small amidst the obstacles and trials you face, but eventually, you come to a place of self-acceptance and courage to contradict your surroundings and create your own path. I created this project when I was perplexed with my future plans and when life seemed like a labyrinth that was impossible to solve.
